Visual Arts - Painting
Nashville, TN

Biography

I have been painting most of my life except for a period in my twenties when I experienced some health problems. My childhood was split between living on the bayous of Louisiana and living in Nashville, Tennessee, thus I was influenced by both cultures. I am skilled in several creative outlets including singing, acting, storytelling, and visual arts. Lots of my paintings have a psychological story and include fairies, angels, spirits, and bright colors. My style can best be described as a combination of expressionist and fantasy-based themes. Though I have been exposed to art instruction by the late Juanita Greene Parks, Hazel King, and various classes at Belmont College, I basically have my own style and consider myself self-taught from independent studies I did.
Among the places where my work has been shown are: America Oh Yes Gallery in Hilton Head, SC, ARC Gallery in Chicago, The Kennedy Center VSA Arts Gallery in Washington, DC, VSA-affiliated galleries in West Palm Beach, FL, Beverly Hills, CA, Louisville, KY, and Montreal, Quebec, and VSA’s Art and Soul ’99 Festival in Los Angeles. Recently, my work has been shown in the Parthenon and was featured in the “The Artist’s Voice” exhibition at the Frist Center, both in Nashville. My work has been chosen for inclusion in the archives of both the Museum of American Folk Art in New York City and the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC. I have works in the permanent collections of the State of Tennessee, Kennedy Center VSA Arts Gallery, and the Dan Prince Art Collection at the Vanderbilt Library Archives. I also display my work on a voluntary basis at several non-profit agencies in town. I am currently active with VSA Arts in Washington, DC and in Kentucky.
My artwork is shown by appointment in my home.

Artist Statement

My childhood was split between living on the bayous of Louisiana and living in Nashville, Tennessee, thus I was influenced by both cultures. Lots of my paintings have a psychological story and include fairies, angels, spirits, and bright colors. Some have described my artistic style as expressionistic, fantasy, or any combination of the two. I've always had my own style, and my paintings reflect the struggles I've been through in life.
